The History of Five Points Pet Resort
True pet care goes far beyond food, potty breaks, and safe enclosures. It's about creating a nurturing, enriching environment where every pet feels loved, seen, engaged, and truly at home.
The Idea
Candace Brock graduated from Clemson University with her degree in Animal Science. After graduation, Candace worked as a Veterinarian Tech and Manager at many Veterinarian clinics across North Carolina. Back in the early 2000's, pet boarding was primarily limited to Veterinarian offices. Candace observed that when dogs were boarded, their care often consisted of just a couple of quick potty breaks, a bowl of kibble, and confinement to a small kennel or crate. This is when she came up with the idea for a luxury resort for pets.
Building FPPR
In 2004, Candace with the help of her husband, Billy, began building Five Points Pet Resort in Raeford. Their mission was to build a resort for pets, not a kennel. At the resort, pets would be able to go on walks, play with friends, get cuddle times, and receive individualized care and attention.
Raeford
The Original Pet Resort of the Sandhills

Our flagship Raeford location opened in 2004 just one mile from the Carolina Horse Park, making it the first true “pet resort” in the Sandhills area. From the beginning, the Raeford resort introduced amenities that were rare—if not unheard of—at the time:

Spacious indoor/outdoor suites instead of cages

Turf exercise yards for safer, cleaner play

A serene cat atrium designed just for feline guests

Webcams so families could check in on their pets from anywhere

Unique extras like golf cart rides, pool play, nature walks, individual TLC sessions, and late-night potty breaks
Together, these features set a new local standard for what pet boarding could be.
Vass
Expanding Our Family

As demand grew, the Brock family looked for a second location that could reflect the same five-star experience. In 2016, they acquired Sandhills Pet Resort on US Hwy 1 in Vass—a 9,000-square-foot facility built in 2008 and shared with a small animal emergency clinic and spay/neuter clinic.
Today, our Vass resort serves the Southern Pines, Pinehurst, and surrounding Sandhills communities with the same level of comfort, safety, and customized care guests had grown to love from our Raeford location.

Over the years, Five Points Pet Resort has become a local favorite and an award-winning name in pet care. We’ve been voted “Best Place to Board Your Pet” in the Best of the Pines for ten consecutive years, and recognized among the top local businesses in multiple pet-care categories. In 2025, Five Points Pet Resort was inducted into the Best of the Pines Hall of Fame, honoring businesses that have earned the community’s trust year after year.
